RUC opens premises in the old Town Hall

Roskilde University is now moving right into the heart of Roskilde and is leasing the ground floor of the old Town Hall.

On Friday 4 October, Roskilde University will officially open the new premises in the red Town Hall building on Stændertorvet in the centre of Roskilde.
The university will use the premises for tuition, meetings, group work, and there will also be an opportunity to get a thesis office in the premises. The old council chamber on the first floor of the Town Hall will continue to be available for lease by associations and societies.

The door to the old Town Hall will now also be open to citizens through a variety of topical lectures and debates by researchers from RUC. On 10 October at 17:00, for example, there will be an opportunity to participate in a debate in which Professor Bent Greve focuses on "Denmark as the world's happiest country".

"We are very excited about the opportunity to bring RUC right into the very heart of Roskilde. RUC should be a natural partner for companies, the municipality and interested organisations in Roskilde so that RUC becomes a more valuable asset for the city and the city becomes an even greater asset for RUC", says Ib Poulsen, Rector of Roskilde University.

Roskilde's Mayor, Joy Mogensen, also looks forward to RUC leasing the premises on Stændertorvet:

"I look forward very much to seeing what will unfold in the way of exciting new events and projects in the beautiful old setting on Stændertorvet. The young students bring their enthusiasm and creativity with them, so I'm really delighted to have an agreement in place" explains Joy Mogensen.

The link between Roskilde and RUC has been discussed extensively since RUC opened in 1972. In 2011, Roskilde Municipality and RUC entered into a development agreement and the campaign for "University City Year" highlighted their cooperation. The opening of the university's premises in the old Town hall is just one of the results of the development agreement.

"Roskilde can bring authenticity to our teaching in areas such as history and tourism. Roskilde really has a great deal to offer in this respect, so it is quite natural to move part of the tuition into the city" says Ib Poulsen.
