Invitation to RU’s International Development Studies 25th anniversary conference

International Development Studies (IU) at Roskilde University celebrate their 25th anniversary, and in this connection they host an anniversary conference on 10 September 2010 at Roskilde University. Rector at RU, Ib Poulsen, will open the conference.

At the conference, IU will focus on the past, the present and the future of the development research and debate, and prominent international researchers will give presentations and participate in panel discussions.

IU spans a wide range of subjects, geographical areas and educational issues, and the course explores development opportunities and obstacles in the developing countries.

RU’s development studies aim to understand the situations of the individual countries, the barriers preventing development from taking place and the means and ways constituting solutions to overcome the barriers. Students may for example study indians’ position in Latin-American societies, the IU industry in Bangalore, the problems of African states relating to government activities, genocide in Rwanda, Darfour and Guatemala, the use of pesticides in Thai farming communities or China's one-child-only policy.
