New Head of Department of Culture and Identity at RU
Roskilde University has employed Martin Bayer, Head of Department of Didactics at the Danish School of Education, to work as Head of Department of Culture and Identity (CUID).
Martin Bayer is 55 years old and holds an MA in educational theory and a PhD degree from the University of Copenhagen.
In 2005, Martin Bayer was employed by the Danish School of Education as Head of Department of Curriculum Research; since 2008, he has been working as Head of Department of Didactics.
Ib Poulsen, Rector at RU, is pleased to have Martin Bayer on board:
- “With Martin Bayer at the helm, the Department of Culture and Identity will have a Head of Department who, with his practicable and open management style, will be able to continue the department’s ongoing positive development and contribute significantly to the implementation of its development plan, at educational as well as research level.
- His five-year management experience as head of department with the Danish School of Education makes him particularly well suited for the job as head of a department representing many academic professions and traditions requiring interaction.
- Finally, I look very much forward to working with Martin Bayer on the executive university management team, where I believe he will be able to contribute considerably to the realisation of the recently adopted university strategy”, Ib Poulsen stated.
During his career, Martin Bayer has written a vast number of articles within didactics and curriculum research printed in international publications. Most recently, he worked on a research project focusing on teachers training in Singapore, Canada, Finland and Denmark, respectively, in connection with the government’s “task force” to perform a 360-degree review of the Danish primary and lower secondary school system.
Martin Bayer's academic career also includes his participation in various networks. He is an active participant in the Nordic network for research in teacher training and the professional development of teachers, and last year he became visiting professor at Beijing Normal University.
Martin Bayer is looking forward to working at CUID:
- “I strongly support RU’s special profile as a critical, interdisciplinary, problem-oriented research and education environment, and I also consider this profile very important and relevant to the overall university environment, nationally as well as internationally, in the coming years. For a number of years, both researchers and administrative staff at CUID have seen several modernisation initiatives and a growing number of new and increasingly complex tasks. Consequently, the department management will also be facing a number of challenges – challenges that I will look forward to meeting”, Martin Bayer stated.
Martin Bayer will take up the position as Head of Department at RU on 1 September.
