Special honour for Dr. Carney, Roskilde University
Dr. Stephen Carney, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and Educational Studies (PAES) at Roskilde University, has been selected to receive the George Bereday Award for his February 2009 article in Comparative Education Review (Volume 53, Number 1) titled, “Negotiating Policy in an Age of Globalization: Exploring Educational ‘Policyscapes’ in Denmark, Nepal, and China”.
The George Bereday Award is conferred on a scholar for the best essay in Comparative Education Review (CER) for that given year. The criteria used in selecting the top article includes:
a) strength of the article’s theoretical framework; b) the degree of sophistication and innovativeness of methodology used; c) the soundness of the data collection procedures and analysis; d) the article’s social utility and its implications for public policy; and e) the extent to which the article makes a unique contribution to the development of the field of comparative and international education. Professor Stephen Carney’s article stood out among all of the essays published in the CER last year, a journal commonly regarded as the premier journal in the comparative and international education field.
Dr. Carney will be recognized at an Awards Ceremony (as part of the State of Society session) at the Annual Meeting of the Comparative and International Education Society in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, March 4, 2010. At this presentation, Dr. Carney will have an opportunity to present a short summary of his work to the larger CIES community. This award, by extension, gives continued visibility to Roskilde University.
