Plug'n Study connection guidelines

Your computer must use DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) to connect to the wireless Plug'n Study network. See below:

Wireless access

This requires that you have a wireless card in your computer that supports the 802.11b or 802.11g standard.

On a Windows PC

If you have a Windows PC, go in under Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, Local Area Connection, Properties and select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then Properties. Check the option Obtain an IP Address automatically.

Note: If you have purchased a laptop PC through Iteo, the Ethernet card is already set for DHCP.

Do the following to connect to the wireless network:

-Double click on the Ethernet card at the bottom right of the screen on the status line (Dual-band WiFi Wireless Mini PC Adapter). The window Status for wireless connections will open.

-Click on Find WLAN on the bottom left hand side.

-Select the Plug-n-study network and click on the button Create connection (The status line will now show the name of the wireless connection (plug-n-study), its speed and the strength of the signal. You are now connected to the network.

When you start your web-browser (e.g. Internet Explorer) you will be prompted for your username and password. Then you connect directly to Portalino and you are on the internet.

On a Mac

If you have a Mac, go in under System Preferences, Network and select New location. Write plug-n-study to give the connection a name. Under Show, choose Airport and under Configure - Using DHCP. Click on Apply now, close the window and save.

Traditional access by Ethernet card and cable

You can bring your own computer with you to RUC and connect to the internet with a normal Ethernet card. Find a network outlet in the wall that is marked with the orange Plug 'n Study logo and plug in your cable. If you are an exchange student you can borrow a cable from the Network Department in building 42.1.
