Guide to moderated lists
When a list is moderated, it means that one or more moderators read the mail that is sent to the list and decide whether the mail should be sent out to the list or rejected. The purpose of the moderator feature is to reduce the amount of spam on the lists and it has been implemented on the major student lists, such as cuid-stud@ruc.dk (all students at the CUID department).
In order to make it easier for the moderators, there are some general recommendations set out below. However, it is up to the individual department and/or the users themselves to establish other requirements.
1. If the topic is Subscribe/Unsubscribe or something like “I wish to subscribe/unsubscribe to the list”, the message shall be rejected.
2. Letting and subletting of rooms/apartments shall be rejected. The list markedsplads@ruc.dk shall be used for this purpose. On some lists, however, the letting of office space where students can write their thesis will be accepted, unless it concerns commercial rental.
3. Mails involving complaints about spam on a list should be rejected.
4. Advertisements, job postings and information on events that are not RU-events and are not relevant to studies connected to the list, should be rejected. The list markedsplads@ruc.dk shall be used for this purpose.
5. Job postings are normally accepted, provided they are relevant to studies. Note that RU also has a Job and CV Bank.
6. The sale of various objects, including books relevant to study shall be rejected. In these cases, the sender should be referred to the list markedsplads@ruc.dk.
There will always be doubtful cases, where we do not know whether or not a given email should be rejected. In those cases, it is recommended that you contact the Study Board of the relevant subject or helpdesk@ruc.dk.
