About the Department

The Department of Culture and Identity is Roskilde University’s central Department of Humanities with a broad academic profile within the humanistic field and a strong international orientation. The Department has the responsibility for research and education within the fields: History, Philosophy and Science Studies as well as culture, literature and language within the foreign languages: English, French, German and Danish for native speakers and within the cross-curricular program Cultural Encounters. The Department also accommodates Basis Studies in the Humanities.
With its research and educational profile the Department of Culture and Identity represents a unique unit within academe both nationally and in a European context. Furthermore, the individual fields within the Department have a distinct cross-curricular profile which both roots the Department’s research and educations in a central Humanistic tradition, and entails renewal and a relevancy to society both in research and education.
