Working Life and Health Promotion

The area of strength Working Life and Health Promotion is based on cooperation between the two research groups, Sustainable Working Life and Health; and Environment, Every Day Life and Food Production. The two research groups are involved with the research centres; Centre for Working Life research (in Danish called CAF) and Centre for Health Promotion research (in Danish called CSUF) which both are in cooperation with the Department for Psychology and Educational Studies (in Danish called PAES).

This area of strength is covering research and development of new understandings of working life and health promotion through a holistic, critical and cross-functional approach in the intersection of social science, humanities and environmental science. Working Life research at Roskilde University has to a substantial degree contributed to research within psychological working environment with creative knowledge of unlimited work and stress. Study of development trends of working life has shown considerable problems within the health area. The research in health promotion is focusing on coping and empowerment in the wider everyday life. This area of strength is focusing on health promotion within the working life and other parts of a person’s life and the relations between these facts. Resent research within the great discrepancy of health is suggesting that the reasons must be sought within the disparity of influence, learning possibilities, opinion, recognition and social support in working life as well as in the everyday life.

The area Working Life and Health Promotion is important to the social commitment of the university and to cooperation with organisations, regions, local authorities and university colleges.
