The aim of Environmental Dynamics is to integrate approaches from a range of disciplines (e.g., population ecology, systems ecology, geography, environmental history, etc.) to examine how the dynamics of ecological systems respond to natural and human-caused spatiotemporal changes in environmental conditions. The field of the research group is environmental dynamic and ecology in the widest sense possible. The group has the following priority areas:

• Ecotoxicology and environmental risk analysis. Optimization of environmental risk assessment as well as fate and effect of chemicals. The group is a major participant in the strategic research initiative Environmental Risk. Visit the website here.
• Marine ecology and anthropogenic changes. Effects of nutrient pollution (eutrophication) in coastal marine waters and re-establishment of coastal marine ecosystems.
• Ecosystem hydrology. The cycle of water and the importance of water in landscapes and ecological systems.
• Innovative biological production. Focuses on the development of innovative and untraditional biological production as a supplement to traditional agriculture, fisheries and petrochemical based production. Work areas include development of live feed for aquaculture and production of algal biomass for bioenergy and high value products. This priority area is one of the identified areas of strength for the Department of Environmental, Social and Spatial Change.
