In the Danish society there is a distinctive coexistence between a strong state and a strong civil individualism, which has created the conditions for the establishment for a long tradition of network governance. At the same time there is an interest for democracy in all layers of the society, which is why Denmark is considered as an appropriate base for international research in democratic network governance.
