Importing data from former calendar system (eCal.ruc.dk) and mail system (Thunderbird)
Calendar data
If you have never used RUC's calendar system you can skip this step. Otherwise, please proceed as follows:
Find a mail named "Kalender data" in your inbox. This mail has an attachment named "<BRUGERNAVN>.ics" where <BRUGERNAVN> is you username, e.g. "kurtj.ics". Right click this file, choose "Save as..." and save it in C:\Setup or some other appropriate location.
Now choose ”File” -> ”Open” -> ”Import” and then ”Import an iCalendar (.ics) or vCalendar file (.vcs)” and click "Next". Browse to the file you just saved and click "Ok" Click "Import" in the following dialogue to import calendar data from eCal to Outlook 2010.
Import Address Book from Thunderbird
You can add, remove and edit contacts in both Outlook 2010 and owa.ruc.dk. It is the same list, but it is not possible to import addresses directly to owa.ruc.dk. Import must be done to Outlook 2010. Then the contacts will end up on the Exchange Server which handles the whole mail and calendar system. The procedure is a bit fiddly but actually it is not that hard:
Open Thunderbird but do not log in when you are asked. Open the Address book and choose "Tools" -> "Export". Now Choose an appropriate location, e.g. C:\Setup, type a suitable filename, e.g. "Addresses", Choose "LDIF" as type and click "Save".
Before your addresses can be imported to Outlook 2010 they must first be imported to another program called Outlook Express:
Open ”Start menu” -> ”Programs” -> ”Outlook Express”. Do not make Outlook Express your default mail program if you get the option and click "Cancel" if the "Internet Connection Wizard" starts. Also choose "Cancel" if you get the dialogue "Outlook Express Import".
When Outlook Express is up and running, click "Addresses" and in the new window "Address Book - Main Identity" choose ”File” -> ”Import” -> Other Address Book…” Then choose ”LDIF – LDAP Data Interchange Format”. Click "Import" and browse to the LDIF-file you exported from Thunderbird and click "Open". Your address book will now be imported to Outlook Express. Close Outlook Express when the import has finished.
Now, finally, the addresses can be imported into Outlook 2010:
In Outlook 2010 choose "File" -> "Open" -> "Import" and then ”Import from another program or file” and click "Next". Choose ”Outlook Express 4.x, 5.x, 6.x or Windows Mail” and click "Next". You will now get an "Import Warning" where you must click "Ok" which is the only option. In the next dialogue you will be asked “Would you like to import e-mail messages and addresses from Outlook Express or Windows Mail” and by clicking "Yes" your addresses will finally be imported into Outlook 2010 and can be found by clicking "Contacts" in the left pane.
The letters æ-ø-å, characters with accents etc. are not converted correctly and will look strange after import. Unfortunately there is no way around editing them manually after import.
If you have more than one address book in Thunderbird they must be imported individually as described above.
