Academic IT maintains a small collection of different hardware for data collection and teaching. Please contact ait-info@ruc.dk for an appointment to try out the hardware.
Flipcam
A flipcam is a small and simple video camera. It records in HD quality and typically it can contain two hours of recordings. The camera has a USB key so that when you finish recording you can plug it into the computer and show the recording right away or upload it to YouTube- almost at the touch of a button.
Being small itcan be steedred into every nook and cranny when you have to document tools, architecture, or a process. It is easy to bring along, and it feels less intrusivethan a large video camera. Flipcams are are not longer on the market, having been outmatched by smartphones. However, Academic IT has a dozen or so camerasthat may be borrowed for a short period of time for purposes of research or teaching where the students need to record each other or group activities.
iPad Mini
Academic IT has an iPad Mini that can be used in connection with Swivl robot recording (see below) or for teaching with iPad in "Kollaboratoriet" if you do not bring a tablet yourself.
Lumens scanner
The Lumens scanner, that which looks like an architect lamp, can be used to take pictures and record video sequences of objects placed under the scanner. It can be used for recording an instruction in the use of a device or to document a process. The quality is useful without being actually good.
Academic IT has one Lumens scanner atits disposal.
Smartpen
With a smartpen you can record sound while writing. At the same time the pen registers and record all movements on paper. The recording can be used in various ways:
- as a sound recording with notes. E.g. it is possible to record an interview and make notes in the making. When listening through the recording you have the opportunity to skip through the interview by pointing at a word in the notes and play the sound recorded when you wrote the exact word.
- As a creative tool. E.g. you can get an interviewee to "draw and tell" and get both discussion and product registered.
- As a pencast. The recording of audio and text can be saved as an animation that precisely reproduces the recording process.
Academic IT has two second generation smartpens at disposal which can be lend for a short period of time in connection with research and teaching.
Swivl video robot
Used for recording video or a video conference while you move around in the room.
The robot consist of a small plate to which your iPhone or iPad Mini can be attached. Furthermore, a wireless microphone that you hold in your hand or fasten to your clothes can be attached. The signals from the microphone is recorded by the programme on your iPad/iPhone and at the same time the robot perceive where the sound is coming from and swivels to follow the sound.
AIT has one robot at disposal and would gladly like to assist in the configuration process.
Interactive Whiteboard
All classrooms at the Department of Psychology and Educational Studies (PAES) are fitted with Interactive Whiteboards.
Below you can watch a video where Susanne Jacobsen Pérez introduces some of the numerous applications these boards offer.
