Summer Course in Danish Language and Culture
For intermediate and advanced learners

Roskilde University offers – in cooperation with the Danish Agency for Universities and Internationalization - a rich program where you will get to see and experience the very best within Danish art and culture. You will at the same time get to learn from the best teachers in the highly qualified frame which the university is.

The teaching will take place at Roskilde University – in beautiful surroundings, only 20 minutes by train from Copenhagen. The students will be offered accommodation on campus, only 5 minutes from the fine classrooms.
Danish classes and other activities
The will be Danish classes in 4-5 lessons each morning. The classes will have a focus in the verbal part of communicative competences including pronunciation. The will also be reading of literature, texts on modern life in Denmark and news. The course will include a meeting with some of the writers we work with during the course.
In the afternoon there will be excursions, presentations, showing of the newest Danish movies or social activities. One evening there will be dinner and a show in Grønnegårdsteatret in Copenhagen, an old Danish theater with rich traditions.
Every year Danish language students are invited to visit teachers and students at Roskilde University in their private homes. It is a very cozy (‘hyggelig’) tradition, where the Danish lecturers and students serve Danish food and spend time together and where the students gets to practice language in more informal surroundings.
Saturday and Sunday there are no classes. Please see the contemporary program for details.
Danish language level
The course is designed for students, who have achieved a language equivalent to upper intermediate or advanced levels (B2-C1 according to the CEFR scale – se the CEFR scale here or find your own level at europass.eu
Everyone with a general B2-C1 level will be taken into consideration.
Method
The teaching will be performed upon the underlying basis of modern language acquisition theories and language pedagogy and the lectures are engaging and vivid. Your work will take place in small groups or individually depending on the task. There will be several oral presentations in comfortable surroundings during the course.

Accommodation
The student will be offered accommodation in a dormitory on campus, where 2 share a room (single room can be chosen). The rent is 2100 dkr. a person. The dormitory is cozy and modern, with big, sunlit rooms and access to the internet. The rooms have a small kitchen, but there are also shared kitchens and you can cook for yourself (or each other). Convenience stores etc. are close to campus.

Application and economy
Together with the admission follows a scholarship of 5000 dkr. This amount should cover rent, food and beverage. It is our experience that the amount fits the expenses rather well.
Classes and every excursions, including transportation in relation to them, is covered by the summer course.
Who can apply?
Recommendation
A recommendation from a lecturer in Danish from the students’ home university can strengthen the application, but it is not obligatory.
