Systematic information search
Aim
The aim of this workshop is to inspire and qualify the part of the research process relating to studies of academic literature and other various sources of information.
The informed and systematic approach to information searching is crucial in building a solid argument and ensuring transparency of research outcomes. We will:
- With departure in the review genre discuss methodological informed information search practices and various techniques.
- Familiarize with places and ways where these strategies can be carried out in practice.
- Focus on collection, documentation, organization of searches to prepare the analysis or for application in teaching.
Content
It’s obviously called re-search for a reason. Search work is embedded into academia though sometimes not a much prioritized aspect.
- We will look upon at least two distinct approaches to information search and relate them to different research cycles.
- We weigh how needs for knowledge can be answered in different ways by difference search strategies and use of databases.
- By considering at the reference manager Mendeley we will discuss how to manage sources, references in in the writing phase and post project.
There will be time to discuss own research practice, experiences and issues.
Participants
The course addresses those who,
- Supervise student project groups and wants to include the newest information search methods in their practice.
- Wish to be inspired on how to include information search strategies into a participatory teaching practice.
- Needs techniques to frame a research project in the literature and/or review the field.
- Just craves to refresh their library skills.

There will be access to inspirational readings on enrolment.
