The supervisor as coach
When we supervise a project group or an individual, we often act in different roles such as teacher, counsellor, instructor or coach. This seminar will focus on the tools and questioning techniques one can use in the role of coach when supervising. Via concrete case studies, we illustrate how it is possible through active listening and ‘sufficiently frustrating’ reflective questions to open up the learning potential for the individual student as well as the group as a whole.
Furthermore, we show how it is possible to introduce new hypotheses and ways of thinking and acting by asking questions and letting the students work their way to qualified answers using their existing experiences, knowledge and skills. The seminar finishes off with discussions and knowledge exchange about how coaching techniques can be best used in group supervision.
