Studying as a guest student

As a guest student you will be studying with regular students at RUC, following the same courses and taking the same examinations. However, you can maintain the status of guest student for a limited period of time only, in general up to 1 1/2 years at the Bachelor programmes and/or up to 1 year at the Master programmes. Furthermore, as a guest student, you cannot be awarded a degree from Roskilde University.

In addition, only some departments offer study programmes and courses in English. The courses and programmes vary in level and duration.

The following is an overall categorization of the programmes and courses:

  • Study programmes: A structured programme consisting of certain courses, written assignments etc. and a certain amount of project work. The programmes are at bachelor’s or master’s level, and the master programmes lead to an international master degree

  • Modules: Structured programmes as well as study programmes, but shorter. Modules do not lead to any degree

  • Courses: Single courses of duration of a maximum of one semester. It is possible to combine several different courses at the same time.

Please check the department websites for information about courses.

Guest student vs. degree student

You can apply for admission to Roskilde University (RUC) either as a regular (degree) student or as a guest (non-degree) student. This site contains information about how to apply and the general qualifications you should have, if you wish to study at the university as a guest student.

Studying as a guest student will not entitle you to a degree (Bachelor or Master). Although there can be other reasons to apply, enrolling as a guest student is mainly useful if:

  • You have a home university somewhere else, and you can transfer the credits for your studies at RUC to this university, or

  • You wish to apply to RUC as a regular degree student later on

Further information about how to enrol and study as a regular degree student can be found at these websites Admission - undergraduate programmes and Admission – graduate programmes.
