Admission to the Master's programmes for full degree undergraduates from RUC
Effective from spring 2011, the rules for admission to the Master's programmes at Roskilde University have been changed.
Application deadlines
The application deadlines for admission to the Master's programmes are:
- April 1st for semester start September
- November 1st for semester start February
Rules and procedures for admission
Rules and procedures for admission to the Master's programmes are now determined by:
- whether you apply for admission immediately after completion of your Bachelor's degree and
- whether you wish to study the same subject on your Master's programme as you did on your Bachelor's programme
- whether you have already completed your Bachelor's programme, are yet to commence your Master's programme, but now wish to be admitted to a Master's programme.
What does this imply for you?
The rules have different implications for students in different situations. Below, you will see what rules and procedures for admission apply:
Please also see our FAQ on admission for full degree undergraduates from RUC
1. If you complete your Bachelor's degree and wish to enrol in a Master's programme to study the same subject, in direct extension of your completed Bachelor's degree
You should apply for admission through Portalino not later than 1 April. If you meet the deadline, admission is guaranteed.
If you wish to study the same subject at Master's level, and complete your Bachelor's degree in the spring semester, you should apply for admission not later than 1 April. If you complete your Bachelor's degree in the autumn semester, the application deadline is 1 November.
If you do not apply before expiry of the application deadline, admission is not guaranteed.
Admission to a Master's programme is guaranteed if you study the same subjects immediately after having completed your Bachelor's degree and meet the application deadline. If you do not meet the application deadline, your right to direct admission is lost. This means that you are no longer guaranteed a place in the requested programme.
If you apply after expiry of the application deadline, admission is only possible if:
- There are no restrictions on the number of places for the subjects you apply for
- The subjects you apply for correspond to the subjects of your Bachelor's degree
- Your application can be processed before programme commencement.
Admission procedure:
As a future full degree undergraduate at RU wishing to enrol directly in a Master's programme after completion of your Bachelor's degree you apply for admission to a Master's programme through the course enrolment/student identity card renewal at Portalino. You only need to be aware that you must apply for admission earlier than usual and you must tick an extra box in a special "Master's programme tab".
2. If you become a full degree undergraduate and wish to enrol directly in a Master's programme to study a different subject combination than that of your Bachelor's programme
You should apply for admission through Portalino not later than 1 April. If you meet the deadline, you may be admitted, but there is no guarantee.
If you wish to be admitted to a Master's programme with a different subject combination than that of your Bachelor's degree, and complete your Bachelor's programme in the spring semester, you must apply for admission to the relevant subject(s) no later than 1 April. If you complete your Bachelor's programme in the autumn semester, the application deadline is 1 November. If you do not meet the deadline, you cannot be admitted to the Master's programme.
If you meet the deadline, you may be admitted, but there is no guarantee.
If you wish to earn a Master's degree in a different subject combination than that of your Bachelor's degree, a place on a Master's programme is not guaranteed. If you are not admitted to the requested programme to study your new subject combination, a place is reserved for you to study the same subject combination on your Master's programme as that of your Bachelor's programme.
Admission procedure:
If you apply for admission to a Master's programme to study a different subject combination than that of your Bachelor's degree, you must apply for admission through the course enrolment at Portalino.
3. If you complete your Bachelor's degree and do not wish to enrol directly in a Master's programme at RUC
You are not allowed to be readmitted. If at a later stage you wish to be admitted to a Master's programme, you must apply for admission. You may be admitted, but there is no guarantee.
You should be aware that you are not allowed to be readmitted. If at a later stage you wish to be admitted to a Master's programme at RUC, you must apply for admission.
If you meet the deadline, you may obtain a place, but there is no guarantee.
Admission procedure
If at a later stage you wish to enrol in a Master's programme at RUC, you must apply for admission. You can find information about how to apply and an application form here.
4. If you have previously completed a Bachelor's degree at RUC and now wish to be admitted to a Master's programme at RUC
You are not allowed to be readmitted. If at a later stage you wish to be admitted to a Master's programme, you must apply for admission. You may be admitted, but there is no guarantee.
If previously, you have completed a Bachelor's programme at RUC, but have not enrolled in a Master's programme (and have obtained a minimum of 1 ECTS), you are not automatically entitled to admission/readmission. You may still be admitted, but the procedure for admission has changed.
Admission procedure
As a RUC Bachelor, you have previously had the option of applying for readmission. As of February 2011, this has changed. It means that you must apply for admission and not readmission. You can find information about how to apply and an application form here.
If previously, you have been admitted to a Master's programme and have obtained a minimum of 1 ECTS, you may apply for readmission as previously. It is a prerequisite that you wish to study the same subjects as the ones you have previously been admitted to study. Otherwise, you must apply for admission again, see the above.
5. If you have enrolled in a Master's programme at RUC, but wish to study a different subject
You should apply for admission through Portalino not later than 1 April. If you meet the deadline, you may be admitted, but there is no guarantee.
If you wish to be admitted to a Master's programme with a different subject combination than that of your Bachelor's degree, you must apply for admission in the relevant subject(s) no later than 1 April for semester start in September and no later than 1 November for semester start in February. If you meet the application deadline, you have the possibility, but not the right, to be admitted. If you are not admitted to the requested programme to study the new subject combination, you may continue your current Master's programme. If you do not meet the deadline, you cannot be admitted to the Master's programme.
Admission procedure
If you have commenced a Master's programme and wish to change subject, you must apply for admission through the course enrolment at Portalino.
