Exemption-based admission
Alternative admission
To apply for admission to Roskilde University, certain requirements must be fulfilled. You should either have a qualifying exam or apply for alternative admission. If you apply for alternative admission, this means to apply for exemption.
Danish as well as foreign citizens may apply for alternative admission. It applies to foreign applicants for Danish-language programmes, however, that before programme commencement they must have passed the Danish Language Profiency Test (Studieprøven) or a different, corresponding examination. This does not apply to application for admission to international bachelor study programmes. For applicants from another Scandinavian country, Scandinavian languages (Danish, Norwegian or Swedish as mother tongues, second languages or foreign languages) are considered Danish equivalents.
Who assesses your application and how?
The application will be assessed by the Study Board of the relevant bachelor study programme, which will consider the possibilities for the individual applicant to complete the programme within the prescribed period of study (the official duration of the programme). The assessment is holistic and takes into account the practical and theoretical educational qualifications, including work experience. Emphasis will also be given to other activities of a social, political, cultural or business-related nature. These activities must be relevant to the bachelor study programme, to which you apply for admission.
The motivated application is very important as to whether or not you are admitted. It is crucial that your qualifications and motivation appear from your application and that you clearly present your reasons for wanting to enrol at RUC and be admitted to the specific bachelor study programme. Furthermore, it is important that you reflect on previous activities and explain why they are relevant to the bachelor study programme in question. It is up to you to demonstrate the connection between your experience and qualifications and the programme you wish to enrol in. Finally, it will be considered whether the application is well written and whether your priorities are right. Attaching your CV to the application is a good idea.
What qualification criteria apply?
When assessing your application, emphasis is given to both general and specific qualifications. The general qualifications apply to all bachelor study programmes, while the specific qualifications apply specifically to the individual bachelor study programme.
How to apply for exemption-based admission?
If you wish to enrol at RUC on an alternative admission basis, you must apply through the Coordinated Enrolment System (KOT): www.optagelse.dk. Applicants applying for exemption will be admitted through quota 2 or quota 3, and you must therefore prepare an ordinary quota 2 or quota 3 application. The application deadline is 15 March. Remember to attach documentation supporting any educational activities.
