Quota 3
Quota 3 is exclusively for applicants who need to apply for a residence permit to be able to study in Denmark. That is, if you are a non-EU citizen without a Danish permanent residence permit or without a temporary residence permit with the possibility of permanent stay, you should apply in quota 3. Please note that you cannot apply in quota 1 or quota 2.
In quota 3, it is a requirement that applicants:
- Fulfil the general and specific requirements for the programme you wish to enrol in.
- Submit a motivated application
If you do not fulfil the general requirement of a qualifying examination, it is possible to apply for admission on an alternative admission basis, namely application for exemption-based admission. For further information, click here >.
Assessment criteria
When assessing quota 3 applications, emphasis is given to your academic background as well as to your work experience and activities, and your motivated application should comprise your complete background. Usually, any supplementary activities should take place following completion of the qualifying examination.
Admission is based on an overall assessment of the qualifications relevant to the programme in question which you may have acquired in addition to your qualifying examination and which RUC deems relevant to the bachelor study programme you wish to enrol in. When assessing quota 3 applications, emphasis is given to the motivated application and activities in the following areas:
- Upper secondary school level subjects
- Higher education
- Work experience
- Folk high school education
- Stay abroad
- Unpaid voluntary work and/or unpaid organisational work
When assessing each activity, it is considered whether it is relevant to the programme you wish to enrol in. In respect of the motivated application, the relevance of the applicant's activities as a whole to the programme applied to and the applicant's motives and reasons for wanting to enrol in the relevant programme are taken into consideration. Against this background, the motivated application is of great importance to the final selection of applicants.
Different criteria apply to the individual bachelor study programmes and they form the basis, on which the assessment of the quota 3 applicants is made. In the following, you can read more about the individual bachelor study programme assessment criteria.

Motivated application
It is required that you attach a motivated application to RUC to the online application submitted, using the link: optagelse.dk. It is important that your motivated application is prepared like a job application. It should not be a neutral list with no life and career highlights. Find good advice on how to write your motivated application and what it should contain here. You may attach your CV, giving a list of relevant activities you include in your motivated application.
The 12-month rule and documentation requirements
You must list all the activities you include in your motivated application (preferably in a CV attached to your application). The assessment will only be based on the activities performed within a total period of 12 months. You should not select these months yourself as this will be done in connection with the assessment of your application.
Remember to attach documentation supporting any educational activities. Do not submit documentation supporting other activities unless requested to do so.
The application for admission through quota 3 must contain:
- Application form
- Motivated application for each of the programmes you apply for
- Original or certified copy of the entrance examination diploma and transcript of grades
- Documentation supporting education activities, if relevant
- Copy of passport
- Copy of your Danish residence permit, if relevant.
You are to upload the required documentation to your online application at www.optagelse.dk
