Admission Requirements for Full Degree Undergraduate Programmes
The Admission Requirements for the International Bachelor Programmes consist of general academic entry requirements and certain specific requirements for the different bachelor programmes.
General Requirements
You can apply for the International Bachelor Programmes on the basis of a Danish entrance examination, or on the basis of qualifications recognised as similar to a Danish entrance examination. Non-Danish students apply for admission to the University on the same terms as Danish students.
Applicants who hold a Danish entrance examination
Applicants who hold a Danish entrance examination will be considered for admission to Roskilde University on the same terms as Danish citizens with the same qualifications.
The Danish entrance examinations are:
- The Upper Secondary School-Leaving Examination (Studentereksamen)
- The Higher Preparatory Examination (HF)
- The Higher Commercial Examination (HHX)
- The Higher Technical Examination (HTX)
Non-Danish citizens who do not have a Danish entrance examination
Non-Danish citizens who do not have a Danish entrance examination are eligible for admission if they have qualifications recognised as being comparable to Danish entrance qualifications.
The following certificates are accepted as equivalent to Danish entrance examinations:
- Upper secondary certificates and diplomas from the Nordic countries
- Upper secondary certificates from the European Union countries and other countries that have signed the European Convention on the Equivalence of Diplomas Leading to Admission to Universities.
- The International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) and the European Baccalaureate Diploma (EB).
- Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB) and Dansk/Fransk Baccalauréat (DFB)

Information for applicants who hold a Faroese or Greenland upper secondary education
From 2013 applicants with a Faroese upper secondary education who have passed the subjects Danish A and Faroese A fulfil the specific admission requirements of Danish at Danish A-level and one additional language, and from 2016 applicants fulfil the specific admission requirement of Danish at Danish A-level including applicants who have passed the subject Danish A as an elective.
From 2013 applicants with a Greenland upper secondary education who have passed the subject Greenlandic A fulfil the specific admission requirement of one additional language, if the applicant has also passed the subject Danish A.
Specific Requirements
In addition to the general academic entry requirements, certain specific requirements have to be met for the different bachelor programmes. The requirements are:
English at Danish B-level, History, History of Ideas or Contemporary History at Danish B-level and one additional language from the following list: German or French at Danish B-level if the language is at advanced level or Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, Spanish or Turkish at Danish A-level if the language is at beginner's level. Documentation of levels and grades obtained within these subjects during upper secondary education must be included in the application.
International Bachelor Study Programme in Natural Science
English at Danish B-level, Mathematics at Danish A-level and either Physics at Danish B-level and Chemistry at Danish B-level or Physics at Danish B-level and Biotechnology at Danish A-level. Documentation of levels and grades obtained during upper secondary education within these subjects must be included in the application.
English at Danish B-level, Mathematics at Danish B-level and either History, Social Science, Contemporary History or History of Ideas at Danish B-level. Documentation of levels and grades obtained within these subjects during upper secondary education must be included in the application.
Admission requirements for admission to RUs subjects
After the first 1½ years of the bachelor programme, you continue the last 1½ years on your full undergraduate studies by following RU single subjects. For some subjects there will be additional admission requirements than those for admission to the basic studies. These requirements must be met before the start of the subject. These requirements apply to students admitted to undergraduate programs at RU starting in September 2008 and later.
The admission requirements apply regardless of whether you apply for admission through quota 1, quota 2 or quota 3.
The admission requirements must be met and fully documented by July 5th in the year of application. You have to prove that you are enrolled in a relevant supplementary course and that this will be completed before commencing your studies at RU. RU must receive proof of the successfully completed supplementary course before starting your studies at RU.
Your grades must be "passed" in accordance with the Danish rules for grading. That means the mark 2 or more (according to the 7-point scale). Is more than one character included, the requirement is only met if the average is more than 2.0.The requirements cannot be met by rounding up.
After the first 1½ years of the bachelor programme, you continue the last 1½ year on your full undergraduate studies by following single RU's subjects. For some subjects there will be additional admission requirements beyond those for the different bachelor programmes.

Language requirements
Studying at the bachelor programmes requires a high level of proficiency in both written and oral English. All lectures, exams and written assignments will be conducted in English. It is necessary for students to be able to work in English at a high, academic level.
All applicants must document a level of English proficiency equivalent to English, B-level. English at B-level roughly corresponds to two years of studies during your upper secondary studies.
Additional documentation of English proficiency will count in the applicant’s favour when the full application is reviewed. Applicants who want to document their English-proficiency should include documentation proving a level of English equivalent to:
IELTS: 6.5
TOEFL paper-based: 550
TOEFL computer-based: 225 or
TOEFL internet-based: 80
Other tests documenting comparable levels of English may also be considered.
If you want to apply for bachelor programmes taught in Danish, certain Danish Language requirements apply. In this case you need to have passed the Danish test for international students (Studieprøven i dansk som andetsprog) or the equivalent.
