About the programme

In the Undergraduate Programme in the Humanities you acquire broad knowledge within the Humanities field and expert knowledge in two bachelor subjects of your choice.

During the first 1½ years, you get an interdisciplinary introduction to key theories and methods within the Humanities field and you acquire knowledge of the subjects Linguistic Science, Literary Analysis, Journalism and Modern Media. In addition, you take courses in History, Cultural Studies, Educational Theory and Psychology.

During the last 1½ years, you specialise in two parallel bachelor subjects. One subject must be within the Humanities field, i.e. you choose between the following subjects.

You choose the other subject from largely all RUC bachelor subjects and preferably across the main areas, namely the Humanities, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences. See a list of bachelor subjects below.

1st Semester

Basic course: Text & Sign 5 ECTS

The course deals with sign systems and how they form texts. It features theories, methods and concepts from, among other things, science of literature, theories on film, media and language, picture semiotics and argumentation analysis.

Basic course: Subjectivity & Learning 5 ECTS

The course gives you insight into pedagogical and psychological theories with sociological and culturally theoretical elements.

Progression course: Project technique 5 ECTS

The course teaches you to be able to organise, manage, collaborate on, and critically reflect over a problem oriented project work.

Project 1: Project focused on project technique 15 ECTS

From the very first project you can choose which area within the humanities you wish to immerse yourself in. Concurrently in 1st semester's project you learn about project work and what it entails, including group formation, supervision meetings and writing a report.

2nd Semester

Basic course: History & Culture 5 ECTS

The course gives you insight into, among other things, historical science, anthropology, media science and culture studies.

Basic course: Science & Philosophy 5 ECTS

During the course you will learn key concepts and theories within science studies and philosophy, which will enable you to work with scientific theoretical and philosophical issues.

Progression course: Method 5 ECTS

The course will give you competencies to critically reflect on methodical issues within the field of humanities. 

Project 2: Project focused on method 15 ECTS

During this project, the focus is on humanistic methods in relation to the research area you and your group choose to study.

3rd Semester

Progression course: Theory of science 5 ECTS

The course will give you competencies to critically reflect on scientific theoretical issues within the field of humanities. 

Project 3: Project focused on theory of science 15 ECTS

In this project you and your group will have to research and evaluate the scientific theoretical issues in the research area you choose for your project.

The elective course makes it possible to qualify or specialise in a practical and/or scientific theoretical direction other than your bachelor subjects. The course can be replaced with an internship.

Progression course 5 ECTS

The course gives competencies in academic presentation.

Bachelor project 15 ECTS

Your bachelor project has to have either one or both of your chosen bachelor subjects as point of departure. If you choose to write the project based on one subject, this has to be within the humanities.
