about
the courses
Almost 40 years of teaching experience has showed us at Roskilde University that the interaction between specialized courses and project work, results in the very productive and stimulating learning experience. At the International Bachelor Study Programme in Natural Sciences, the time of study is split equally between courses and research based project work. The fundamental basis is always scientific issues, often anchored in the world surrounding us.
Courses – Your natural scientific foundation
The courses provide an extensive subject related scientific and methodical knowledge to give you a broad foundation of high academic level. Your lecturers are researchers and the teaching is a mix of laboratory courses, lectures and practice sessions. All teaching takes place in small teams and good organized study groups. Wide range of course selections will help you work in depth with the issues you find interesting and usually after a short period, you can relate much of your course syllabus to your project work. You can read about the courses here.
Projects – Absorption and co-operation
The other half of your study at Roskilde University is based on research-based problem oriented project work. This will allow you to go into depth with your subject and challenge your skills to be creative and work out independent ideas. The projects give you "hands on" experience with your subject's problems by bringing your newly acquired knowledge into play in relation to specific issues. It provides you with an opportunity to conduct your own research, do your own fieldwork and work with different companies and organizations. That way, you acquire new knowledge and learn how to use your academic skills to solve concrete and relevant issues in the real world.
