Project Work and Semester Themes
From the first day at the Natural Science Bachelor degree project work, you will learn to think and work based on research. Each semester puts you in a team of 4 to 8 students of similar scientific interests, working on a specific problem. You will learn how to manage and conduct your projects with other group members. Project work takes around 3 months every semester and students finish up with a project report.
All project groups have a supervisor who is one of RU's committed researchers. They work as a sounding board for you and the group to help you define the problem you want to work with and identify the scientific theories and methodologies that are relevant in order to solve your problem.
During the first 3 semesters, the projects need to follow certain semester themes.
1st Semester:Application of natural sciences in technology and society
The objective is to ensure that students, through their work with a representative problem example, acquire experience in working with natural science as a tool in practical and societal context.
2nd Semester: Models, theories and experiments in natural sciences
The objective is to ensure that students acquire experience in working with basic scientific problems in the field of natural science, through their work with a representative problem example.
3rd Semester: Reflection on natural science and dissemination of knowledge in the field of natural science
The objective is to ensure that students acquire experience in working with natural science as a cultural and societal phenomenon through their work with a representative problem example.
Projects in the 4th and 5th semesters will follow the regulations depending on the disciplines chosen by the student.
Bachelor Project: Bachelor project completes the bachelor education and is placed in the 6th semester. However it can also be placed in 5th semester if appropriate. It is the educational round up of the science bachelor degree. It demonstrates the students ability to competently identify, formulate, analyze and process a complex scientific problem. The topic must be approved by the study director.
The purpose of the bachelor project is to see whether a student is immersed in the previous studies. The project must decisively engage and deal with scientific theories and methods for illuminating a complex scientific problem. It is possible to make either a single subject or an interdisciplinary undergraduate project. The students who are doing their bachelor project are offered a project seminar to support group formation and to inspire subject selection.
