Structure and content of Computer Science

Computer Science consists of a bachelor module and two master's modules, each worth 30 ECTS points (50% courses, 50% project work).

These module descriptions apply for students who started their bachelor studies at RUC after September 1st, 2005.

Course structure

During your study at Computer Science, you will follow four courses each worth 7,5 ECTS points, two on the bachelor module and four on the first master's module. The courses are separated into three groups of varying academic level. This gives the student some freedom in regards to course choice.

You can read a description and explanation of our course structure here.

The bachelor module

The bachelor module's main focus is on the constuction and development of computer software. The student will also learn basic practical computer scienctific skills.

The bachelor module covers subjects such as modelling, data structures, graphics and animation, software development, design and programming. The project has to include the planning, implementation, testing and documentattion of a medium-sized programming assignment.

The module comprises of two courses and one project.

The master's modules

The first module on the master's level focuses on computerbased technologies and the key objective is to endow the student with a deeper undderstanding of a specific technologi as well as the general principles sustaining such a technology. The module covers subjects such as machine construction, operating systems, distributed systems, databases, human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, web technology, etc.

The module comprises of four courses.

The second master's module is where the student becomes specialised within a limited computer scientic field. The student writes a project or a thesis (depending on whether you write your thesis in Computer Science or another subject) where a computer scientific problem is independently, methodologically and critically adressed.

The module consists of a project or thesis.
