Career and Competencies

With a Master's degree from Roskilde University where Cultural Encounters is one of your subjects, you will be competent in analyzing culture and communication and thereby you can relate constructively and communicatively to issues that have social and cultural dimensions.

You acquire a broad understanding of cultural relations and the ability to analyze and work with linguistic and cultural complexity. These abilities and competencies can be used within many different types of job positions, e.g. integration, culture and news coverage, education, conflict resolution in private and public companies and institutions.

In relation to integration, you can apply for positions in integration projects that deal with refugees and immigrants at an international and national level. Concerning culture and news coverage, you are able to contribute with nuanced analyses of for instance conflicts, social movements or integration initiatives. Regarding the educational sector, for instance working with bilingual children in the public school or the education of for example nurses, child and youth workers or social workers, the ability to analyze and understand cultural diversity and cultural conflicts is a key competence.

Candidate Investigation report 2007
A larger investigation into where candidates from RU found employment after they had finished their studies was carried out in 2007. This investigation has for instance looked thoroughly into the length of the period between a candidate's finished studies and the first job as well as which competencies were applied in the positions that the candidates held etc.
