Structure and Content
The study of English (after Basic Studies) is a 3-semester Degree Programme (one semester corresponds to 6 months and 30 ECTS points). English must be combined with one of the other study programmes available at RU.
For more information about the modules and their contents, please see here:
If you wish to opt for a career as a teacher in high school / the upper secondary school ('Gymnasieskolen'), you must choose English Grammar and English Phonetics plus these three Cultural Studies: British studies, American studies and Postcolonial studies. These area courses (i.e. American Studies, British Studies and Postcolonial Studies) focus on the relationships between texts, culture and society in English-speaking countries. For more information about how to obtain language teaching qualifications, please see here.
If you aim at becoming a cultural analyst or intercultural communicator, you can structure your studies by choosing two or three of the area courses, possibly in combination with English Grammar or one to two Specialized Topics (including interdisciplinary studies). The Specialized Topics change from semester to semester and may deal with anything from USA today to Postcolonial literature in Africa.
