BA module
At the BA module in English, you will obtain fundamental knowledge about English grammar, phonetics, textual analysis and English literature and culture.
The module consists of three courses:
- Linguistic Analysis
- Textual Analysis and Textual Theory,
- English Literature and Culture,
- as well as project work in the research area of Language and Communication.
Through the courses and the project work, emphasis will be given to oral and written proficiency in English so that you can learn to express yourself more freely in English.
Course in Linguistic Analysis:
The course in Linguistic Analysis will enable you to analyse basic syntactic structures and you will be introduced to the relationship between linguistic variation and discourse/society, as these concepts apply to English.
Course in Textual Analysis and Textual Theory:
The course in Textual Analysis and Textual Theory is concerned with the methods of understanding and describing literary and non-literary texts from the major periods and movements in British, American and Postcolonial literature in a historical and theoretical perspective.
Course in English Literature and Culture:
The aim of this course is to familiarize students with relevant methods and theory for studying culture and literature, and to study a specific topic in depth.
Project work:
In your project work within English Language and Communication, you can choose to carry out an analysis of a certain type of language use or you can conduct an analysis relating to one of the core disciplines, i.e. English Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Discourse Analysis, Language Pedagogy or Translation Theory. In your analysis, you must use relevant theories and methods relating to syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics or communicative theories.
