About Global Studies
The Globalisation affects all aspects of the society. Global Studies focuses on the motivation forces behind the globalisation and its effect on the three central spheres of the society: The state, the markets and civil society. This is reflected in the three themes of the programme.
The content of the subject
The combination programme of Global Studies contains three modules of six months' duration (one Bachelor module and two Master modules) and will be combined with one of the other subjects at RU.
The one-subject Master programme of Global Studies consists of four Master modules. Du can be accepted for the one-subject Master programme with a combined Bachelor's degree with Global Studies as one of your subjects. Usually, the study at Global Studies is based on one of the four Basic programmes at RU.
All courses and lectures are tought in English and the project work is in English as well.
Three themes
The theme 'Globalisation, Political Culture, Civil Society and Social Movements' has its main focus on the civil society, the politics of culture, the social integration and development. It will be discussed how the power relationships, the authorities, the political and cultural identity are constructed and how they are challanged in situations characterized by ambiguity and conflict. The organisations' and institutions' influence of the state, the multi and bilateral charities and development aid organisations and the security- and military organisations are put under the microscope. Furthermore, the third sector's role on the creation of a sustainable social and cultural development.
The theme 'The Globalisation of Goods, Bads and Welfare' focused on how the globalisation has broken down the boundaries for moving people, capital, technology, ideas, values etc. The increasing global economic interaction will be discussed in relation to national development, growth, inequality, poverty, migration, global crime, terrorism etc. The possibilities for creating an international order controlling the global flow and taking jobs, employment, and social conditions into consideration will be discussed.
The theme 'Global Politics, Global Governance, Regionalization and State Sovereignty' takes it starting point in the political, the security and the ideological cohesion between countries and states. The globalisations impact on the power relationships and the political stability will be discussed in relation to the challenges for the global governance system. The organisations of the governance system as forexample UN, NATO, EU, WTO, IMF and units as the terrorist network, the religious and ethnic groups will be discussed in relation to the state sovereignty and function.

Study environment
Global Studies belongs to the Department of Society and Globalisation together with International Development Studies, EU-Studies, Public Administration (one-subject), Social Sciences and Public Administration (two-subjects). All together the department has more than 1200 students enrolled.
The frames of the professional study environment is mainly the courses and the project work. The courses at Global Studies have attendance of 15-30 students, which leaves ample opportunities for debates between the students and the lecturers, student presentations and questions. The Group work is taking place in groups of two-four students with a supervisor affiliated helping with both the professionel and the practical part of the group work.
The Department of Society and Globalisation has a significant international environment. Many exchange students study at the Department and a lot of the courses are offered in English. Many Danish students choose to study abroad for six months or a year either at universities or at an internship.
The social life is organised by the students. The group work gives good assumptions for a social involvement among the group, while the annual celebration, the spring party and the Friday cafés are social events for all students at the subject.
