Project work at Informatics

The project group is an important platform for developing professional and social skills. The project groups at Informatics are usually small, and each student freely chooses their subject and group. Choosing a project takes place during the project market held at the beginning of each semester. Here, students and supervisors are able to present possible topics, and the students are given the chance discuss the suggestions and ideas among themselves and talk with the various supervisors and thus find the proper group constellation and project topic.

At Informatics, it is very beneficial for the student to work alongside companies or organizations when writing a project. This offers a good opportunity to engage in IT in actual application contexts.

In this regard, project topics could deal with analysis of a company or an organization’s need for new or other IT systems to solve specific tasks. As an example, a project evaluate and improve an organizations IT applications through user surveys, analysis of the company’s needs, forming a vision or a strategy for the future use of IT for the organization, etc. Projects at Informatics require the student to engage with the people who will use the project at some point.

The projects at Informatics are written during the bachelor module and during the second module of the master’s degree. During the bachelor module you can write your dissertation in Informatics if your bachelor study is Social Science, Natural Science or Humanities-Technological Science. During the second module of your master’s degree, you can freely chose to write your master’s thesis in Informatics, your other subject or both (integrated thesis).

Why interdisciplinarity and project work?

At RU, we believe that problems in the real world can rarely be solved using one academic discipline. That is why RU’s academic and educational profile is based on interdisciplinarity being a cornerstone in scientific innovative approach and innovation.
