Courses provided at Informatics – structure and requirements
In the curriculum, obligations are determined for courses and course levels. The student is thus given a restricted choice when choosing courses.
All courses at Informatics are divided into 3 groups: introductory courses (group 1), core courses (group 2) and advanced courses (group 3). All courses equal 7.5 ECTS. A total of 6 courses are required, 2 during the bachelor module and 4 during the first module of the master’s degree. The structure of the courses supports the progression of the individual student as well as the project work during the entire course of study.
2 courses from group 1 are required during the bachelor’s degree and 3 courses from group 3 are required during the master’s degree.
If, during your bachelor study, you passed “Modeling and Knowledge Management” you already met 1 of the 2 required courses from group 1 and are therefore free to choose a group 2 course during your bachelor’s degree.
If you combine Computer Science with Informatics you will, due to an overlap between the 2 subjects, meet the requirements more quickly and therefore be able to choose a group 2 course during your bachelor’s degree.
If you would like to know what your combination of subjects allows you to do, we refer you to the Study Advisor.
In the following outline you will see what the three different group courses covers, and further down you will find a description of the requirements to achieve qualification in teaching in IT on a high school level.
Group 1: the introductory courses (bachelor’s degree) of Informatics cover the following subjects:
- Project management.
- Modeling knowledge and information.
- IT in an organizational context.
- Implementing IT based on existing frame technologies.
- System development with emphasis on pre-studies and requirement specifications.
Group 2: the core courses (master’s degree) of Informatics cover the following subjects:
- IT strategy as well as change and organizational management.
- Evaluation of IT applications.
- IT security and system architecture.
- Managing information.
- IT applications within specific domains.
Group 3: the advanced courses (master’s degree) of Informatics support the student in specializing within the field of Informatics.
The specific descriptions and titles of each course can be found in the course database where the courses provided during the current semester are listed. Other information about the current semester can be found under “Semester plan” in the left menu. Here you will find information about grouping of present courses. In this list, you can also find information about which of the provided courses offer the student qualifications to teach at a high school level.
