Study environment
You can find us in building 43, which is one of the newer RU buildings with lots of light and modern interior. The AV office is next door, making it easy to borrow cameras, recorders and other IT equipment.
The kitchen is the social centre. Professors (and students who feel like it) meet for lunch every day. Around the intro days and other events, it is transformed into a café.
If you want to experiment with new user experiences, you can go to Experience Lab. Here, students and professors collaborate to develop concrete projects on museum mediation, game development, experimental learning and others, where user involvement is in focus.
Teaching methods
Studying Informatics, you will mostly experience courses and project work. The project groups are created at the beginning of every semester, and the students choose the groups. You can read more about project work here.
On the masters level, some courses, especially those of a 4 week duration, contain workshop elements.
Social life
Informatics is, student-wise, a relatively small subject which means that most students know each other. Social events are arranged primarily by students themselves, through our Facebook page or by talking to the professors or the secretary.
We keep an “open door” policy, meaning that all professors keep their doors open. You can always drop by for a chat, to ask questions or just to get to know us.
If you want to talk to students or professors, you are more than welcome to come visit us in building 43. You could also call or email the Study Counselor who is always happy to answer questions.
Activities and events
We frequently hold BizTek Talks where guest lektors or professionals discuss and explore topical areas around new information technologies and their impact on society and business. These are an ideal opportunity to network with professionals and other students.
We hold other activities through the semester. Subscribe to our mailing list or like our Facebook page if you want to stay updated.
We are always happy to hear suggestions for events or guests if you know someone, or if you want a specific subject covered.
