Deadlines for submitting the evaluation reports are:

• September 1st. for the period January to June
• March 1st. for the period July to December

Twice a year, every PhD student and PhD supervisor is required to submit a written report to DSSG. The progress of the PhD project is assessed in relation to the PhD plan every six months by a progress report prepared by the PhD student. The report states the activities in terms of courses, field trips, teaching activities, dissemination work, conference presentations, etc. An outline of the research conducted during the period should also be included.

For the report to be useful, the student should describe changes in research focus, deviations from the PhD plan and implications for the remaining research.

Reports are confidential and procedures are in place to insure that neither student members nor supervisors of the student will read the student’s reports if there are any problems mentioned. It is most useful for the student, the supervisor and the Director of the Doctoral School if the real obstacles and challenges (that are inevitable in dissertation work) are dealt with honestly and explicitly.  Any concerns reported will be handled by inviting the relevant parties to meet with the Director of DSSG to work on a resolution process.

The student’s progress report is handed in to the PhD Coordinator at thorsted(at)ruc.dk independently of the supervisor’s evaluation report. The report is subsequently approved by Director of the Doctoral School if there are no outstanding issues. If any major alterations have occurred in relation to the PhD plan, these must be approved by the Director of the Doctoral School. Deviations from plans and time schedules should be discussed with the supervisor and/or Director of Doctoral School. You should, obviously, involve the supervisor at a stage where such advice may still be incorporated into the research work and the detailed elaboration of the study plans.
