Professional Development Seminars

Experienced faculty member or teams provides advices, tips and lead discussion on some of the practices in our common field of academia at the Professional Development Seminars for the PhD students. A seminar lasts about two hours.

More about Professional Development Seminars

WHAT
These are 2 hour seminars led by an experienced faculty member or team, to provide advice, tips and lead discussion on some of the practices in our common field of academia. These seminars will be offered in addition to Work in Progress seminars for all PhDs and guest PhDs to attend.

WHO
Seminars are open to all PhD students enrolled in the Department of Society and Globalisation and visiting PhDs affiliated with DSSG. Students are encouraged to attend at all stages of their research progression.

ECTS CREDITS
1/3 of an ECTS point per seminar attendance will be granted to any student who needs points. The seminar organizer register the attendens and hand the information to the PhD coordinator: isg(at)ruc.dk. The PhD student’s must include the seminars in the half-year report of credits earned.

LANGUAGE
Professional development seminars will be held in English unless otherwise specified.

QUESTIONS/FEEDBACK
Inputs from PhD students and their supervisors are welcome. Please contact the Work in Progress seminar organizers or the director of DSSG.

FREQUENCY: DSSG plan to hold approximately five Professional development seminars per semester, although this may increase according to student needs.

  • HOW TO SELECT, ATTEND AND BENEFIT FROM CONFERENCES
  • HOW TO DEAL WITH OBSTACLES IN THE PHD PROCESS
  • HOW TO MANAGE THE WORLD OF ACADEMIC PUBLISHING
  • HOW TO COMPLETE A SUCCESSFUL PUBLIC PHD DEFENSE
  • AFTER THE PHD: CAREER DISCUSSIONS
