A successful and well-attended Environmental Risk Seminar
The kick-off seminar of the research initiative Environmental Risk on September 19th did indeed turn out to be a real kick-off.
More than a 100 people attended the seminar, where the speakers among others were RUC’s vice chancellor Ib Poulsen, Gary Banta, the leader of initiative, and Allen Burton, professor in aquatic and environmental sciences at University of Michigan and honorary Doctor in Natural Sciences at RUC 2013. The Seminar focused on environmental risks from field to fjord, a subject that during the seminar was elucidated from the perspective of both biology, geology and social science based on several presentations by researchers at ENSPAC (see the program). The seminar thus exemplified the idea and strength of the research initiative: The embracement of transdisciplinarity in addressing environmental problems. This is a strength that the research initiative can be proud of and a challenge. As Allen Burton started out saying: “It’s difficult to make people play in the same sandbox”.
