Cluster 7: Structural Adjustments comes to Europe

In the context of the Eurozone crisis, severe structural adjustment processes are taking place in a number of Member States, most notably Greece, but also Ireland, Spain, Portugal and Italy. The current economic, political and social ruptures in the European Union are individual crises in EU Member States, as well as collective crises of the Eurozone, and the EU in a global context.

The objective of the research cluster is to understand the causes and consequences of the crises in the EU periphery (and, increasingly, also the core) by focusing on similarities and differences in the different countries’ social, economic and political experience of crisis, and the increasing inequalities engendered by these processes. In the context of the Global Dynamics programme, the cluster also examines the fragilities and struggles over public authority that have become manifest in the crisis dynamics.

Inaugural workshop on 7 November - see the Call for Papers here. For all questions, please contact Laura Horn.
