Guest lecture April 2nd: Mike Sharples

Mike Sharples, Professor of Educational Technology, The Open University, UK holds a guest lecture on April 2nd at 10:30 in room 43-3.29:

"Digital Media and Creative Learning in Museums"

Creative learning involves mapping and exploration of juxtapositions of conceptual and physical spaces. I shall examine how museums are conceived as physical and conceptual environments that can support creative learning. Digital technologies can simulate the physical space of the museum on a computer screen. They can also enable annotations and combinations of real and virtual exhibits. How can these be designed for creative learning? The talk will introduce 'citizen curation', as an opportunity for children and adults to learn topic knowledge and also to acquire skills of curation, by an inquiry-led process of collecting, arranging and presenting artefacts for digitally enhanced museums. I shall offer some examples of citizen curation in the MyArtSpace museum inquiry project, the iSpot citizen science environment, and Matthew McFall's 'wonder curriculum'.
