Innovation in Higher Education: The Open University
Roger Spear, Professor, PAES, Social Innovation

The Open University (OU) is a distance learning university with about 200,000 students worldwide. It was founded a little before RUC in 1969, and launched its first courses in 1971 to 25,000 students. From the very beginning it was innovative both in the way courses were produced, but also in the way they were delivered to students through a high profile partnership with the BBC. Since then it has continued to innovate, most recently with an attempt to compete with the US inspired MOOCs.. !! (Massive Open Online Courses).
This presentation gives an account of the ways the OU has innovated in its approach to learning and education.

Psykiatriens videnskabelige univers
Erik Simonsen, professor, Forskningschef, Roskilde Universitet, Psykiatrisk Forskningsenhed Region Sjælland

Fredag 19. april 2013 kl. 14.00 - Roskilde Universitet – Bygning 30K.0-01

Theorizing globalization in education policy research
Stephen Carney, Associate professor, Educational Studies

The relation between globalization and post-modernism is well-established in social theory but remains problematic in the field of educational studies, wedded as it is to the so-called Enlightenment values of universalism, reason and progress. I will explore current innovations in theory and method in education policy research and relate them to key elements in a post-modern repertoire of analytical tools, illustrating these through different empirical experiments from my own attempts to engage with global dynamics in the area of education.
