The PhD programme in Communication, Journalism and Performance Design is one of three programmes at the Department of Communication, Business and Information Technologies (CBIT) at Roskilde University.

The PhD programme invites projects that may focus on theory, analysis or practice, on media types, media institutions, media technologies, forms of communication, forms of expression and genres forms of organization, as well as specific works or products linked to the research fields of Communication, Journalism and Performance Design.

The PhD programme is cross-disciplinary and advocates theoretical and methodological pluralism and the use of theories and methods within and across the humanities and the social sciences and, in certain cases, the natural sciences and technology.

The programme is open to all PhD students who wish to carry out research related to the field and topic areas covered by the programme. An academic master’s degree is required, not necessarily in media and communication studies in a narrow sense. Students with a background in creative work such as design, visual arts, film, theatre, music etc are welcome, but documented qualifications equivalent to a master’s degree are required in all cases.

Roskilde University has a large, well-established group of researchers in the fields covered by the programme, who contribute to the day-to-day environment of the PhD programme. The researchers belong to the Department of Communication, Business and Information Technologies (CBIT) and are organized in different research groups.
