Meaning and Diversity

This cluster consists of scientists from the institution for International Migration and Ethnic Relations (IMER) from MAH and scientists from the institute of Psychology and Education Studies (PAES) from RUC.

The two institutions will organize joint seminars; educational cooperation’s and joint publications. The goal for the collaboration is to strengthen and increase the integration of the inner life of the Oresund area.

This group will work together with comparative studies in two parallel tracks.

1. Education and integration in the Oresund area

The work in this direction focuses on linking the Swedish and Danish education- and integrations politic. This is based on the fact, that the intentions of the integrations policy often is pointed out in the education policy, therefore it’s of interest to investigate and problematize, how Sweden and Denmark handles question about the role of education in integrations policy and in practice. There are both a national and a local perspective of these questions and both policy and practice need to be compared.

2. Learning processes in the welfare state

The work in this direction is about professionalization processes and professional ethics in a society and region characterized by cultural, ethnics and religious diversity.

The focus is on the professional opinions and learning processes and the implications this may have on the users/learners/citizens opinions and learning processes and thus their ability in social and cultural change. Because of this will not only the professional codes of ethics be in focus but also the ethical practice, which means the concrete work in the human welfare state professions.

How the professionals (employee in the education and social sector) are handle questions about meaning and diversity?

How do they relate do culture, ethnicity and religion in their work?

Discussing these questions in a comparative perspective will enable both immersed understanding for example the meaning of the national context and an understanding of the possibilities for the user/learner/citizens opinions and learning processes.

Results will help planning
The result of this seminar series will be used as a background for the education planning in both co-operation institutions. This cooperation will also produce knowledge that can be used as a model for work and study forms in joint educational activities, especially through empirical fieldwork and comparative studies.
