Partnership of Region Zealand and Zhejiang Province

Zhejiang Province is situated south of Shanghai, with a population of 50 million and an area of 100,000 square kilometers. The capital city of Zhejiang Province is Hangzhou, one of the most beautiful cities in China. When Marco Polo visited China at the end of 13th century, he described Hangzhou as "the City of Heaven, the most beautiful and magnificent in the world." Zhejiang is also one of the most well developed regions in China, with the largest number of private enterprises in China.

Region Zealand and Zhejiang Province (China) reached a collaboration partnership in 2007.  It was agreed that the two parties would cooperate in the following areas: regional planning and strategies, economic development, environment and nature care, research and innovation, education, etc. RUC, as the main public university in the Region Zealand, participated actively in the abovementioned activities with Zhejiang Province. In the past two years, RUC received ten exchange students from Zhejiang University (ranked no. 3 in China, among 2500 Chinese universities and colleges). RUC also engaged in an collaboration with Zhejiang University in the research areas of educational science (Henning Salling Olesen, PAES) and natural science (Poul Erik Hansen, NSM).
