The International Social Science Basic Studies

If you are a new student starting your studies at The International Social Science Basic Studies August 2011 - click here

The purpose of The International Bachelor of Social Sciences is to provide students with broad knowledge of social sciences and give them an opportunity to explore and understand social problems. Students also work with subjects such as economics, political science, sociology, and planning, spatiality and resources.

The bachelor degree starts with a two-year basic studies programme as an introduction to each of the disciplines Political Science, Sociology, Economics, and Planning, Spatiality and Resources. During this two-year study programme the students may start focusing on certain subjects of interest within the social sciences and the students may choose freely between various advanced and specialized courses within each discipline or combinations of disciplines.

The two-year study programme contains four compulsory projects (1 project each semester) in the form of group work. The project topics are chosen by the groups themselves. This problem-oriented project work makes out 50 % of the two-year study programme. Please note that interdisciplinary studies are considered very important for the study programme.

As a supplement, the two-year study programme also offers courses in philosophy of science, methodology and Social Research Methods.

The students at The International Social Science Basic Studies consist of a mixture between students from Denmark, Europe and a few people from other countires outside the EU.
