Writing professional texts in English
Course description
Would you like to practice your professional writing skills in English? Or would you perhaps like to enhance your awareness of the written form of the English language to help you supervise your students writing in English, particularly at master’s level? If so, the autumn semester offers RU faculty a dual purpose course in writing professional texts in English.
The aim of the course is to provide you with an opportunity to learn how to engage effectively in the process of producing professional texts in English. The participants’ own texts will be our starting point, and ideally, when the course starts, you are most likely already in the first stage of writing an article, your PhD thesis or some other academic text.
The participants’ texts will be used to take a look at different language characteristics, such as grammar, syntax, conciseness in vocabulary and textual coherence. Participants will develop a personal list of problem areas and how to deal with them to subsequently be able to self-correct.
As the writing sessions take their starting point in the participants’ texts, any level of professional writing skills is accepted to participate in the course. However, it is important that the participants acknowledge that in order to improve writing skills, it is necessary to engage in writing from session to session.
We will use moodle as our working platform.
A certificate will be issued following 80 percent participation.
